Funny enough, a friend of mine would say just the opposite. "One has got to be fundamentally lazy if he hides from his own spirit". Getting in touch with your senses is a good exercise, and so is your piece of prose which can easily become a beautiful poem, should you ever decide to do so. I enjoyed this, thank you.

And since it is best to illustrate a suggestion with an example, I drew a poem out from your text for you to see what I was talking about. I do think your text has a nice poetic potential.

Going retro

Sometimes I go retro.
On Sundays, when the roads are clear,
I take my car out and drive slowly
as if pulled by a horse
At noon I watch American Graffiti on TV
and read an old magazine with vintage furniture from the 50’s.
I make myself some orange juice
turn on the radio to “Nothing to lose”,
an old soundtrack brought alive by Dimitri from Paris
blended with jazz
a nice state of mind that fills my entire day.
Why go shopping at the mall
I know a little old store where
one could barely fit two-three people
it smells like varnished wood in there
and the little red-haired lady behind the counter
with big round eyes
is always afraid to smile lest she loses concentration
when giving back the change.
It’s getting late.
I sip my coffee and watch a slideshow
black and white pictures of Africa
an elephant covered in mud,
a boy with lots of arrows,
an old man crouched on the ground in the scorching sun.
One can afford to be lazy sometimes
for the sake of good old days.

Hm, what do you think?
