The winter froze my land with ease,
Encompassing loneliness, The memory of fallen leaves Made me feel weak and songless. It wasn’t always as it is, This was a pond of wildness, Atlantis swallowed in the seas When Men brought in their madness. The forest was heaven to me And my ancestral dwelling, I was too small for them to see, Now, I’m the last one standing. I almost hate my chthonian chains That bind my to the wild, Untouched, only the faith remains: The Sun will bathe its child. Through winter’s freezing crassitude And desolating trenches, Its light will warm my solitude And my cold-blooded branches. No wolves to howl, no birds to sing, But Nature kept its oath, The hope of life that spring will bring And of the green regrowth.
