Once we belonged to a busy line
leading us to a valley with a lake. Big trees welcomed us with smiles, two lazy crocodiles said no words, an owl looked at us with suspicion. Side by side, we moved in harmony, the Anglo tongue granted us words. Laughter and jokes painted our world, a small hut by the lake gave us peace. Hunger and exhaustion were strangers. The sun released us and went to bed soon, a path led us to a human site, still wild. In a meat-tasting place, we sat face to face. We both celebrated a renewed happy day. It was not a piece of cake to stay apart. But I knew nothing about the reason why. Sitting side by side by a man-made moon, we read two English poems in turn, then we turned to the real moon bearing corona. Jogjakarta, 16 June 2003
